Skills Development Accessibility Specialist
Full-time, 1-year term with possibility of extension | $65,000 plus benefits | Halifax, Nova Scotia
An opportunity to strengthen access, education, and employment pathways
TEAM Work Cooperative is seeking a Skills Development Accessibility Specialist to support students and
clients with disabilities as they move through education, training, and employment pathways.
This role brings together direct student support, accommodation planning, funding navigation, and systemlevel
capacity building across Post-Secondary Accessibility Services, Employment Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia
Works, and training institutions.
At its heart, this position is about helping people access the right supports, at the right time, so they can move
forward with confidence.
About TEAM Work Cooperative
TEAM Work Cooperative is a Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centre with a strong history of
supporting inclusive employment and accessibility. We work alongside job seekers, students, employers,
community partners, government, and the broader employment services system to reduce barriers and create
meaningful pathways to education, training, and employment.
Our work is grounded in inclusion, accessibility, collaboration, respect, and a belief that everyone deserves
the opportunity to participate fully in work, learning, and community life.
About the Role
The Skills Development Accessibility Specialist provides integrated support across Post-Secondary
Accessibility Services and Employment Nova Scotia.
A key focus of the role is supporting the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Students with
Disabilities. This includes helping students navigate eligibility, functional barrier assessments,
documentation, applications, service and equipment recommendations, and related processes.
The Specialist will also act as a subject matter expert within the Nova Scotia Works system, helping Case
Managers identify accessibility needs earlier, plan appropriate supports, and strengthen education and
training pathways for clients with disabilities.
This role is both hands-on and collaborative. You will work directly with students, while also supporting staff,
partners, and systems to become more accessible, consistent, and responsive.
What You Will Be Doing
Supporting students
You will support students through the CSG-DSE process, including intake, eligibility review, functional barrier
assessments, applications, documentation, service and equipment recommendations, and follow-up. You
will help students understand available supports and connect with campus-based accessibility services
where appropriate.
Helping students access services and equipment
You will help identify disability-related services and equipment that support students in their studies. This may
include supporting access to specialized services, tutors, notetakers, assistive technology, assessments, and
other approved supports, in alignment with PSAS and federal program guidelines.
Strengthening accessibility across Nova Scotia Works
You will provide guidance to Nova Scotia Works Case Managers who are supporting clients with disabilities or
suspected disabilities as they pursue education, training, and employment goals. This may include helping
with accommodation planning, return-to-work action plans, academic planning, and identifying supports
beyond what institutions may provide.
Building knowledge and confidence
You will help develop and deliver training, tools, resources, newsletters, drop-in sessions, and consultation
supports that make accessibility processes easier to understand and apply across the system. This may
include professional development for advisors, Accessibility Office Managers, and Nova Scotia Works staff.
Collaborating with partners
You will work closely with PSAS, Employment Nova Scotia, Case Managers, post-secondary institutions,
program officers, and other stakeholders to support strong communication, coordinated service delivery, and
continuous improvement.
Ensuring quality and accountability
You will maintain accurate documentation, protect privacy and confidentiality, follow program guidelines,
support quality assurance expectations, and ensure services are delivered in a timely, consistent, and
student-centred way.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of accessibility, disability supports,
accommodations, and inclusive practice in education and employment settings.
You may be a strong fit for this role if you are:
• Experienced in working with adults with disabilities
• Comfortable supporting students or clients through complex systems
• Skilled at identifying barriers and translating needs into practical supports
• Familiar with post-secondary accessibility services, accommodation planning, or disability-related
funding processes
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and confident with documentation
• A strong communicator who can support students, staff, and partners with clarity and care
• Collaborative, thoughtful, and committed to improving access and inclusion
• Comfortable working independently while staying connected to a broader team
Experience with Post-Secondary Accessibility Services, Nova Scotia Works, CSG-DSE, SDAS processes,
student assistance, or accessibility-related service delivery would be considered an asset.
Qualifications
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field such as education, psychology, social work, rehabilitation, or a
similar area
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience working with adults with disabilities
• Experience in post-secondary accessibility supports, considered an asset
• An equivalent combination of education and extensive related experience may be considered
Why This Role Matters
For many students and clients with disabilities, the path through education and training can be difficult to
navigate. The right support can make a significant difference.
This role helps ensure people are not left to figure it out alone.
The Skills Development Accessibility Specialist will help students access the services, equipment,
accommodations, and guidance they need. They will also help strengthen the broader system so staff and
partners are better equipped to respond to accessibility needs with confidence, consistency, and care.
